Tonight went much better

Last night I was in a funk. I left the theatre feeling crappy and needed to vent. This show is so good and Joie is such a great director and we have such a fantastic cast, I didn't want to let anyone down. Today I did much better as Gus the Theatre Cat, and we did much better with Act 2. I feel energized. Thanks to Allison for her comments, and to Mindy, Joie, and Dustin for listening to me complain and whine. I just had to get it out of my system. Carm says we all need a melt-down once in a while. Last night was mine. Tonight went much better! And Christian says he will work with me tomorrow after the production meeting.

The Jellicle Moon . . . continuation

Has anyone noticed the moon the last few nights. It has been gorgeous! It is full and bright and looks quite close to the earth. I realize as a science teacher this is tied into the season of the year and the earth's atmosphere as well as the angle of the moon as it rises that makes it looks so large. BUT we are getting closer and closer to CATS opening and we have fewer and fewer rehearsals. This week as made me feel more like going out and celebrating/relaxing with my friends in the cast (or Catst as Chuck likes to call it) after rehearsals. Tuesday we stayed on the parking lot and tonight we went to Syberg's and sang karaeoke.
Tomorrow I have tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera which is my favorite musical and I almost forgot about or at least didn't get as excited as I have in the past. I think part of it is that I am so involved in our current musical, I haven't really had time to think about it. It is a case of living life instead of just watching it. Life is a participant sport and not a spectator sport.
Anyway I just thought I would share. WOW, 2 blogs in one week! and now I even have a myspace.com account.

The Jellicle moon is shining bright . . . Jellicles come to the Jellicle Ball

It is one month until the Summer Alumni Theatre opens CATS at Bishop DuBourg High School. I am so excited, and we are doing such a good job, and it is a great cast with an amazing amount of talent! Just had to say that.
We have been spending the last few weeks learning the blocking/choreography/dance steps and movements for this show. The songs have slipped just a little with recalling exactly words and tempos. Nothing bad, just we now need to combine the two and really get our butt moving on this show. There are a lot and I mean A LOT of movements to remember and what words/lines/music it goes with. It is unbelieveable how much a rehearsal suffers when someone is missing. There is not "star" in the show, it is an ensemble cast with a few people with larger parts. But the whole show depends on the whole cast.
The set looks wonderful and it isn't even painted yet. I am still working on props and will move into high gear now that school is out. So begins the reign of the prop nazi. I went shopping yesterday with Jeremy and we picked up quite a bit of stuff. Now the magic is turning that stuff into props froma junkyard/alley that the "cats" can use during the show.
I am still trying to develop my singing voice as Gus. He is an old cat and Joie wants my voice softer and to shake at times like my paws. But the notes are so low at times and Christian wants me to sing out louder. They are both gifted in what they do and see for the show and its characters. I just have to develop Gus more. They BOTH tell me that Gus is telling his story and that's what needs to come out in the song. My goal is to get the audience to cry at the end (or at least choke up). On a cooler note, I get to pop out of a trash can in the opening number. (Cheryll is building me one.) Isn't that great?!! Plus later, I get to sit on a smaller trash can as I sing my song.
So if you are reading this and you're not in CATS, then come and see the show: July 12-16, 2006.
On a different note. I made my reservations for Walt Disney World in December 2006. I am staying at the Wilderness Lodge, and will be attending Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, the Candlelight Processional, and the Yuletide Fantasy Tour. I hear Christmas is a wonderful time to go. I have been there twice for the Thanksgiving weekend but never Christmas. Well, I am still not actually going at Christmas. I am going in early December. The crowds should be lower but the park hours will be shorter. Plus there is a MouseFest that week too! Maybe I will met up with some other Disney freaks just like me!
