Teamwork
I said I wouldn't/couldn't talk about work here. No ne really wants to write or say anything that will endanger their job. But I guess I could write this. I am a male Catholic school teacher at a Catholic elementary school. So therefore I am in the minority. I know, no sympathy there. But mpt wanting to sound sexist but it is different when women meet and discuss a situation, solution or problem. We are in the early stages of making changes and adjustments to the schedule for next year. Although I won't go in to details here (first its boring and second does anyone really care and third its not definite), I did walk away with a feeling of satisfaction. I was listened to and what I had to say did have merit.
Most times when I meet with my team of teachers, I know who I am and what I have to say is dismissed. "Male and not a morning person---whatever he has to say is inconsequential." It is a clique, very much like other cliques in the school building. And whether they realize it or, their negative energy is destructive and detrimental to the students. But they are the majority. and a few of them will bully their agenda onto the rest of us. I have mentioned this to the administration and even asked to be moved to a different grade level(s). I was told/reminded I am a good teacher, I enjoy the grade levels I am currently teaching, and was encouraged by the adminstration to stay where I am and keep up the good work and strive for a positive environment. Given the current situation in the Archdiocese, job security is an issue for most people.
But this scheduling committee wasn't like that. The teachers listened and discussed whatever we proposed, and brainstormed on realistic solutions to pressing problems. It was good to be taken seriously and know that I am part of a team and I do contribute to the school. It was nice to be treated like an adult and a profesional.
